Animoto offers a simple approach to video-making: drag and drop your assets into video blocks and it takes care of the rest. However, this magic hand assistance often turned in an increased lack of creative control for users.
The legacy text system had limited functionalities to make creative decisions with text leaving users wanting more. Very small business and consumer users were fleeing to other video products since they could not customize or create the text lockups they wanted in Animoto.
How might we empower video makers to freely customize their videos while still providing creative guidance?

Make your video story stand out with new text editing functionality

Users will now be able to add multiple text boxes to a block on the web and mobile Animoto app with a suite of new tools to:
- Draw their viewer's attention to important messages with text color highlight of words or letters
- Complement their graphic layouts with manual text justification
- Keep text size consistent from block to block with numerical font size controls
- Make their videos dynamic by rotating text boxes

We launched a suite of new text editing functionalities that refreshed an outdated system that did not meet user nor industry standards. This refresh allowed users to take control of their creation and make visually consistent, attention grabbing videos generating positive user feedback and adoption within the first few weeks of release.
